About 826CHI

One of the first things I did upon moving to Chicago in 2009 was to start volunteering at 826CHI. It’s the local chapter of a creative writing and tutoring center that was founded by author Dave Eggers. 826CHI’s programming serves over 4,000 Chicago students from all over the city annually tuition-free!

I started by after-school tutoring kids from elementary school age to high school at the Wicker Park Secret Agent Supply Co. My favorite programs were workshops that invited a class in on a field trip to write a story together. Each student finishes the story on their own, has their author portrait taken, and goes home with a printed copy and the feeling of being a published author!

As my career picked up, I had less time to volunteer after school. I was thrilled to be a founding member of the 826CHI Associate Board to continue supporting the organization through community awareness and creative fundraising. This year, I furthered by involvement by joining the Associate Board’s Executive Committee.
