Rooftop Views in Speakeasy Style at Drumbar

Chicago’s nightlife reached new heights with last month’s debut of Drumbar. Sitting pretty atop the Raffaelo Hotel, the luxe lounge and rooftop terrace is the Gold Coast’s place to be “scene” this summer.

Take the elevator 200 feet up to enter Drumbar’s stunning speakeasy-style retreat. A sleek bar of thick cut marble will catch your eye, but don’t pause too long. Around the corner, the lounge invites you to cozy up in tufted leather chair and take in the surrounding rich wood, high ceilings, and beautiful people. The lounge’s fireplace makes Drumbar a destination for all Chicago’s seasons, but the rooftop terrace steals the show.

If you can imagine a Chicago edition of Gossip Girl, it was Drumbar on opening night. Sipping in the shadow of the Hancock building, the posh crowd seemed accustomed to Ben Newby crafted cocktails and swanky rooftop views. Tall brick walls nestled the patio from the elements and fire pits provided mood lighting for clusters of intimate conversation. The maxi dresses and ombre tresses managed to stay clear of the flames, even after enjoying one too many summery Delicate cocktails. The drink of Domaine de Canton Ginger Liqueur, Earl Grey Crème Tea, Lemon Juice, and Campari was the evening favorite. DJ Chris Masterson got everyone on their feet with tributes to Michael and Whitney, while the Chicago Bucket Boys’ drum performance welcomed Drumbar with a bang.

For Chicagoans in need of an urban retreat boasting a breathtaking space, thoughtful cocktail program, and accessibly chic sensibility, Drumbar doesn’t miss a beat.
